2020 Tail of the Year Winner Announced
Meet Your Winner from Union City – Luna
Luna is one of the nine puppies that needed a home and is an All American Pit Bull. She is 6 years old and hails from Union City with her sisters and humans.
Some of Luna’s special skills involve sitting on a chair, “talking” when she wants a treat, dragging your hand to be pet and constantly wanting attention, She also loves running, eating somebody else’s dinner, especially mashed potatoes. Luna’s favorite toy is a frog squeak toy. Her favorite hangout place is around the St. Michael’s Monastery. When she gets all tired and sleepy, she goes under the cover with her human, with her full weight against them. She is just the sweetest!
Luna figured that being herself would be the best way to prepare herself for the competition. Her humans worked hard in posting her bio every single day in IG and FB! She joined the competition because she wanted to show everybody what a unique and lovable dog she is and to show how cute pit bulls really are. Plus, she wanted a day spa so here she is! She walks around town with her crown, cape and sash to show everybody what a queen she is. Too cute!
For Luna, “it is such an honor to be the 2020 Tail of the Year because she wants to prove to Hudson County that being a pit bull is no different than any other dog. It would mean so much to her to be a breed ambassador and be able to show everybody that she is just like any other dog; just that they have bigger heads.”
Finally, Luna’s advice to the next Tail of the Year is to just “be yourself and everybody will love you.”
Meet Your Runner Up from Kearny – Ozzie
Meet Ozzie, an 8 month old Mini Golden Doodle.
Ozzie’s parents decided to have her join their family in March 2020, but this wasn’t going to happen until April (to be exact one day after my mom’s birthday). Then COVID happened, and the whole family got sick. Ozzie’s pawp had to go to the hospital and her mom was unsure whether to still receive her into their life at such a hard moment. She made the decision to still have Ozzie join their family as it was something her parents had planned for a while and were looking forward to. They had already even picked her name and got her a bunch of stuff for her arrival! Then, since day 1 of being with her mom, auntie, and grandparents, she made their worrying and stressful days better by being her crazy self. She brightened their days with lots of playtime and funny tricks. She would keep her mom company at night when they had to return home to sleep and was always there with her to support her by giving her lots of kisses. Thankfully, her dad came back home and both him and mom are thankful for having her in their lives/family as it was the best decision they ever made.
Since then I’ve learned to do simple commands like sit, rollover, down, give my paw, play dead, go to bed and wait for her food until her mom says ‘go.’ My favorite food is peanut butter and loves to play catch and fetch. Ozzie loves visiting her grandparents; that’s her favorite hangout spot.
Ozzie is a lovable pup! She brings smiles to her family, friends and just about anyone she meets along the way. With that personality, she joined Tail of the Year 2020 to represent her town and become famous. Her whole family rooted for her and worked hard to bring in votes tand help her win. During the competition, the things she enjoyed the most are meeting new friends – furry and humans alike. She enjoyed the experience so much that for the next County candidate, her advice is to just enjoy the competition, be thankful and give back to the community.
As Tail of the Year 2020, Ozzie feels that it is an honor to represent her town and to know that she will be leaving a mark (even if it’s as tiny as a paw) in the Trusty Tail family/community. She couldn’t have done it without the support of all her family and friends!
