With over 70 million dogs as pets in the United States, who is to say which breeds are the most popular? The American Kennel Club recently released a list of breeds and their ranking in popularity for the US, and these are the top 10 breeds to make that list.

1. Labrador Retriever

Coming in at the number one spot is the Labrador Retriever. Labs, as they are most affectionately called, come in three color: yellow, black, and chocolate, and grow to be 50 to 70 pounds. What makes them so lovable is their gentle nature and family friendliness.

2. German Shepherd

This fun-loving and energetic dog is great as a family pet and a working dog. They live to please their people. There is surprise that they make an appearance in the top 10.

3. Golden Retriever

Golden Retrievers are beautiful inside and out, with coats and hearts of gold. They can adapt to practically any living situation, which is a big factor in their popularity.

4. Beagle

This happy, people pleasing, friendly dog is a great accessory to any home. They make for exceptional hunting dogs, thanks to their need to please, as well as family pets. A beagle’s small size and low maintenance coat are just some of their beloved features.
