Cats and Aggressive Behavior
Do you have a feline who exhibits aggressive behavior? Do you find yourself asking why, and what can you do to help?
There are many reasons why cats and aggressive behaviors with them. As a responsible pet owner, it is your duty to dig in deep and find out why and then take the necessary steps to correct the behaviors or alleviate the problem. An aggressive cat is a very dangerous cat. Cats have multiple weapons they can use against you when they become angry, such as their teeth and claws. Getting bitten by a cat or scratched by a cat can lead to some pretty bad infections.
Here are a few forms of cat aggressive behavior and their triggers:
1. Being Petted
Cat’s are not Dogs, obviously. And most cats “tolerate” their human petting them. They don’t particularly want to be touched. After one too many “pets” they tend to become annoyed. Some may act out by biting the hand that pets them. Work on limiting the amount of cuddles and pats you give your cat. Gradually work up to the amount that your cat can endure.
2. Cat Illness
If your cat is sick, he will be grouchy. Pain, rabies, dental issues or even prior injuries can all lead up to your cat losing his patience. Try to ascertain what is causing the uncomfortableness your cat is feeling and take him to the vet.
3. Scaredy Cat
Cats who are afraid or scared will act out. They will either run and hit or put up a defense. Find out what signs your cat puts out when he is scared. Don’t bend down and try to pet him when you know he is fearful. Let them have their space and keep calm.
Again, learn your cat’s personality. Once you can tune in it will make it much easier to avoid upsetting them!
4. Boredom
Cats who do not have mental and physical stimulation will also act out. Cats need toys to play with, cat trees to jump off of, fake mice to stalk and a human to interact with!
