Dog Park Spotlight: Shipyard Dog Park and Pier
Established in 2013, the word on this pier park with new carpeted run is getting around town and the metro area (yes, actually), and for good reason. It’s well maintained, consistently clean, more often than not stocked with doo-doo bags, attracts super owners with friendly pups, is safe and offers a fenced synthetic turf area and it’s adjacent to a traditional grass pier area (nice to have available).
What more could you ask for? Since you asked… Perched on the Hudson River and boasting a knock-out view of the Manhattan skyline, time can fly with or without intention. The benches help and are much needed for the various lifestyled Hobokenites. Providing owners the option to let the doggies get moving, while they can exchange, unwind and bond among themselves. Though constructed in mind for Shipyard residents, all the pros and pluses have quickly spread beyond them.
Improvements and upgrades would include the additions of a water supply, water fountain, a shaded area, a windshield or windbreak barrier, repairing the fence bottom where needed and enlarging the carpeted area to ease through busy times and allow bigger dogs to join in more frequently on the fun. Weekday mornings are calmer with less visitors. Weekends are less structured and can be enjoyably social and bustling.
Everything considered, if you reside near 13th Street and Sinatra Drive, the snags are minor and you and pup will both be in for a treat.
