Interview Vera Murri: Dog Trainer & Dog Life Hoboken Owner
When bringing home a new puppy or adopting an older dog, we often find ourselves in a situation where we need help with dog training in Hoboken. We interviewed Vera Murri, Dog Trainer and Owner of Dog Life Hoboken about her background and philosophy on dog training in Hoboken.
How did you get started with dog training in Hoboken?
I moved to Hoboken in 2013 with my husband and started a Dog Life in Hoboken in 2015 as a dog walking/pet sitting service. I switched to training dogs in 2017 and that’s all I do now. I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl in 2017. Being a mother in Hoboken has helped me understand the importance of introducing a dog properly to children. I truly enjoying making the transition of a family dog or newly adopted dog as easy as possible. I also really enjoy working with each and every family.
What should dog owners look out for in a dog trainer?
Dog owners should look for someone who practices force free, science based dog training techniques. Dog owners should avoid trainers who use the old school jerk on a leash and hit/yell at the dog – these are techniques of of the past.
What dog training education and experience do you have?
I graduated from CATCH Canine Trainers Academy in February of 2017. I’ve worked with rescues and I have trained dogs at St. Hubert’s as part of my studies. I continue my education by taking multiple online courses and going to seminars. I’ve been teaching classes and private training for over 3 years.
What professional certifications or memberships do you have?
- CCDT Certified Dog Trainer
- APDT Member
- AKC Evaluator
- CATCH Trainer Mentor
What dog training methods and philosophy do you use?
My methods and philosophy for dog training are force free, science based, and reward based training.
Do you offer a guarantee?
No, I do not guarantee a dog’s behavior. I don’t train dogs, I train people, and the success of training depends if the person follows the training plan and reinforce the wanted behaviors.
How do you make the learning fun for the dog?
I make it fun not just for the dog, but for the paw-rents as well. Everything is done in a form of a game.
What services do you offer?
- Obedience Training
- Behavior Modification Training
- Dog Training For Expecting Parents
- Dog-Baby/Dog-Toddler Introduction
- Walk & Train
What types of cases do you take on or refer out?
I take on puppy training, basic obedience, minor behavior modifications.
I refer out: aggression, dogs with known bite history (to people, dogs or any live being)
