Meet Maggie Rose Studio: 2021 Tail of the Year Sponsor
Maggie Rose, of Maggie Rose Studio, is a 2021 Tail of the Year Sponsor who will be creating an illustrative portrait of the winner of the pet competition.
How did you start Maggie Rose Studio?
I’ve been an artist and illustrator for years having graduated with an Art Degree in 2013. Since college, I’ve worked in just about every field of illustration I could: stationary design, coloring books, video games, graphic novels, marketing and animation. When the pandemic hit, I started freelancing and my illustration client list grew and grew. Taking commissions through my Instagram has been a wonderful way to connect with people and to broaden my artistic views.
What was the inspiration behind Maggie Rose Studio?
My inspiration behind becoming a freelance illustrator was collaboration. I’m not just making my own art and trying to sell it, I’m working with the client to create exactly what they had in mind for their image. It’s thrilling! Plus I get to create things I would’ve never created without their input.
Tell us about your artwork.
My main source of pet themed artwork is Painted Pet Portraits. I work for Chewy.com as a pet painter too so I’m creating roughly 60 pet paintings a month. I also draw cartoons of my friend’s pets for them, usually on their Birthday.
Do you have any pets?
Currently, I have one cat named Jiao Tang. We adopted him from a Tawainese household a year ago and kept the name because he still responds to it. He is a big fluffy grey cat with bright green eyes and long hair on his cheeks which creates a curly mustache. Jiao Tang acts like a typical teenager, too cool to be around us, but still follows us everywhere. Cries and complains when we pick him up, but then reluctantly purrs like a motorboat. He’s curious, confident and chill. Love that guy.
How do you strive to make a difference in the community?
A few months ago I started volunteering for No Dog Left Behind as a graphic designer, creating some logos, cards, and other marketing material for them. It feels good to help out, even in a small way.
Anything else you would like to add?
I’m really looking forward to seeing the Entries and to create a custom Digital Illustration of the winning animal! Best of luck to everyone!!
