Should My Cat Take a Bath?

Should Cats Take Baths?

Your cat was born with all the right tools needed to take care of his cleaning needs. Cats are amazing groomers and very agile.

There are certain times when you will need to step in and give your cat a bath.

Human Allergies to Cats

If your cat is an indoor kitty they most likely will not require many baths. However, if you or a family member are allergic then you should give them a bath every now and then. It will remove the dander and hair.

An Older Cat

Older cats are not as flexible and there are places they won’t be able to reach. So you will need to give them some help. Bathing occasionally will help keep their mats down and help them reach places where they can no longer reach.

Shedding Fur

During shedding season it may be a good idea to bathe your cat as this will help control shedding

Keep in mind a few tips when you bathe your cat:

1. Get them when their mood is right. A mellow kitty is much easier to bathe. Some cats get super stressed when bathed.

2. Brush them to remove loose hair.

3. Ensure you set up a slip free surface.

4. Gently wet their fur and apply your shampoo. Make sure you don’t get water or soap in ears, eyes or nose. Use washcloth for wiping face.

5. Rinse thoroughly.

6. When done ensure you give them extra praise and treats! This way they may become more used to the bathing experience.

Take it step-by-step and nice and slow when you begin to bathe your cat. Again, they stress easily and they may not take kindly to a bath. Since they do have long sharp nails and teeth you can run the risk of getting bitten or scratched. Take is slow and make sure you are making the experience the best you can for your cat.
