Why Does My Cat Do That?
Occasionally, our feline friends do things that can leave us puzzled or frustrated. Cats are picky, particular, and can be downright weird, but it just comes down to a communication complication. Here are some of the basic behaviors that may leave you questioning your cat.
Butting Heads
Cats butting your head is a way for your cat to let you know that he is there, and that they know you’re there. It’s a sweet little “Hey, how are you?” It could also be your cat “claiming” you by marking you with their scent.
Bring You “Presents”
No matter how strange or gross it may seem, this is a sign of family. Mother cats bring their kittens food in this way, so cats bring these gifts to “help provide” for you. Never punish your cat for doing this, because it is a natural instinct for them. Say thank you, and clean up later.
Making Biscuits, “Kneading”
When cats are kneading, it is a sign that they are happy. They are comfortable with you, and scent marking you as a safe place. It could also be to relieve anxiety, but that leads to comfort in the end.
Small Spaces
Cats are not at all claustrophobic, but in fact enjoy being in snug, small spaces. It allows them to see what is going on in a smaller area, which helps them calm down and relax. Don’t think your cat is trying to hide from you, but let them have that alone time.
Staring
Staring is a sign of a few things. Most of the time, your cat is hungry. They want your attention so you can give them some food. This is not a sign of aggression or predatory behavior. It could, however, be a sign of interest. Cats will stare very intensely at whatever you are doing if they find it interesting enough. Eventually, they will get bored and move on.
